Recycle, materials and design
My degree thesis focused on the development of a material selection support tool for designers. I decided to work on this project in collaboration with the Matrec center for research and development for eco-design and materials, so I moved to Rome for six months. Environment issues are considered way more important into the development of new products nowadays, and even more they’ll be taking into account in the future, so it's necessary to create support tools for designers to help them doing the right choices during the preliminary phases of the project , when the product’s concept is developed. The degree thesis aimed to guide and support the designer into the choice of recycled materials. This book contains 60 materials coming from recycling techniques of aluminium, paper, rubber, inert, wood, plastic and glass. It's such a manual where materials are described by technical data sheets and images that show textures, dimensions, physical quality and aestethic quality, the materials are divided in family with different colors.
The thesis won the honor mention for the Lucky Strike Junior Designer Award from the Raymond Loewy Foundation.
