Plates

I spent a lot of time with Antonella Di Luca into a beautiful ceramic company in Imola (north of italy). We saw and learnt how to work with ceramic and we had the pleasure to meet Pietro and Mara, two great craftsmen. After this experience we decided to work on "osteria" plates, and with the help of Pietro we prototyped some plates. All the plates have been left white, because we felt we didn't want to add new elements to the work.

Maltagliati
The maltagliati feature is the complementary cut of the brim edge. Taking away substance without changing the core.

Lunare
We focused on the brim, cutting and tilting it down. In this way the brim becomes an independent and peculiar element, almost as a ring around its planet.

Tra le righe
We focused on the brim, cutting material from its below side. The ceramic thickness helped us to obtain a three-dimensional decoration on the plate back side, while the cuts create a better grip.

I think this is the best way to design a good object, working side-by-side with a craftsman, seeing production techniques, and learning by direct experience.
